Hotel Savegre lies at 2200 meters (7,200 feet) above sea level and is influenced by Central Pacific climate patterns. Similar to most of Costa Rica, there are two main seasons: rainy and dry.
Dry Season: Between December and April. This normally brings sunny days virtually without rain. Minimum temperature is around 5.6˚ C (42˚ F) between midnight and 4 a.m. rising to a maximum 25˚ C (77˚ F) at mid-day although at times it can feel hotter.
Rainy Season: Between May and November. Minimum temperature is 5.5˚ C (41.9˚ F) generally between 5 – 7 a.m. rising to a maximum of 22˚ C (71.6˚ F) around mid-day. Driving
Hotel Savegre is in the province of San José, 89 km. (55.3 miles) south-east of the capital. To reach us, take the Pan-American highway south (Route 2) until km. 80 then take the side road for 9 km. that leads to the hotel. The turn-off is well marked for San Gerardo de Dota and also for Hotel Savegre.
There is a bus service (Musoc) between San Isidro del General and San José. The buses leave every hour from 5.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The buses do not go directly to the hotel but will drop you off at km. 80 at the turn-off for San Gerardo de Dota. We can arrange to pick you up if you let us know beforehand.

Our private reserve contains trails with different levels of strenuousness, from short walks around the property to long, challenging trails of significant difficulty.
Road access to San Gerardo de Dota is very well maintained and can take both saloon cars and 4x4 vehicles. The only limitation is vehicle size as buses of more than 35 passengers won't be able to make it.
At Hotel Savegre, we accept cash in US Dollars, CR Colones or Euros, credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Maestro, Discovery, Diner's Club) and travelers checks.
All the trails around the hotel are very well marked so anyone can walk them by themselves. The only restricted hike is the Cerro de la Muerte Trail, which requires a guide because of the complexity of the terrain.
Of course! You can reserve a room and then change your package when you get here. The most important thing is to ensure your room reservation with the hotel.
We recommend you book in advance if you want a guide. If we are busy it might not be possible to get a guide at short notice.
Hotel Savegre has Internet service for our guests. We have some desktop computers in the lobby that can be rented and we have free Wi-Fi in some parts of the hotel.
Yes by all means. You can order food in the hotel restaurant and settle up separately if meals are not included in your package.
The restaurant is open to both resident guests and non-residents. Meal times are: Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Lunch: 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Dinner: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Our chef is happy to change the menu to meet any special dietary requirements.
