IN LOS QUETZALES NATIONAL PARK
This outing is the gateway to discovering Costa Rica's newest National Park: Los Quetzales N.P. Decreed a National Park in July, 2005, it covers 5000 hectares (12,350 acres) and includes three forest zones and 14 eco-systems. Its objective is to preserve highland forest and protect the water sources found there.
Find your guide at reception and get ready to explore the Continental Divide separating the eco-systems between North and South America.
Upon arrival, you start by searching for endemic bird species as your guide explains the natural history of this unique area.
After a short walk from where you leave the car, you will discover one of the most impressive panoramas you'll have ever seen … on the right the Talamanca Cordillera and the volcanoes of the Central Volcanic Cordillera, in front the central Pacific and a bit to the left the southern Pacific leading towards the Valle del General and Osa Peninsula and behind you, Chirripó, Costa Rica's highest peak.
After exploring the area, we drive to the Park office and walk along short trails to look for any birds missing from your list. Fill your camera with memorable photos and your mind with unforgettable memories before we return to the hotel.
